Comstock Park High School
Coopersville High School
Coopersville hosted Comstock Park on Monday night for an OK-blue conference soccer match. It was a tale of two halves as the Panthers started the first half with the wind at their back and a strong urgency, and they worked hard to control play and held the Lady Broncos at bay keeping them off the scoreboard.
The Broncos defense was able to stand up to the challenge and ensure that the Panthers would put no goals in as Riley Camp and the defense in front of her maintained a shut out through the first half.
After a lengthy discussion with the team at half time, and some on-field adjustments were made, the Lady Broncos came out much more determined and played with a purpose as they scored the first goal of the match less than three minutes into the second half. Kira Budzynski sent a ball through the goal mouth which Makenzie Abbas drove into the back of the net for what would eventually be the game-winning goal. The Lady Broncos we’re not finished as Budzynski would score a goal of her own on an assist from Brooklynn Hardy, followed by a goal from Hardy as she floated a shot into the upper corner of the goal from 25 yards away, and a finishing goal by Abbas to close out the goals at four for the Lady Broncos. The Lady Broncos defense would secure the shutout by not allowing any quality chances to finish out the game.
With the win the Lady Broncos run their conference record to 2-0, and their overall record to 3-0.
The Lady Broncos return to the road on Wednesday for another conference match against West Catholic at 6:45 PM.
The JVs beat Tri-County by a score of 2-0 to move their record on the season to 2-1.
