Game Recap

After a fast start and convincing 25-8 win by the Lady Broncos in the first set of tonight’s OK Blue conference match, the host Panthers of Comstock Park turned the tables and won the next two sets to jump out to a 2 sets to 1 lead. The Panthers played great defense throughout the rest of the match and seemed to frustrate the Lady Broncos. Coopersville regained momentum in the fourth set with tough defense from Kaitlin Breen, timely blocking of Abby Olin and the powerful hitting from Cara VanKempen. The fifth and deciding set was back and forth between the Broncos and Panthers but after a 8-8 tie, Comstock Park scored the next 3 points to take a 11-8 lead. The Broncos pulled back to within 10-11 but the Panthers again pushed the lead to 14-10. With their backs to the wall and Comstock Park sitting on 3 match points, Cambria Cleveringa stepped back to the service line and started the comeback with an ace. After a Panther error to bring the score to 13-14, Aubrey Bates reeled off two kills of her own to put the Lady Broncos at match point. After a defensive dig, Bates set up Katelynn Fritz for the match sealing kill and a 3-2 Coopersville victory. Defense carried the team tonight as the Lady Broncos totaled 104 digs with Sheridan Smoes leading the way with 22. Bates and Breen were right behind Smoes with 20 digs a piece. The offense was lead by Fritz, VanKempen and Smoes with 11, 10 and 9 kills respectfully. Dishing out the majority of the assists for the match was Bates who ended the night with 34 on the night. The victory brings the Lady Broncos conference record to 2-0 and over record to 11-4-3.
