In a season-opening nail biter, the Broncos fell to 0-1 on the season with a 50-48 overtime defeat at the hands of Kent City. The game featured 2 teams that had 15 wins last season with many returning starters on both sides. The Broncos led 10-8 after the first quarter. The Eagles played a great 2nd quarter, and took the lead going into halftime at 20-17. The second half began much as the first with the Broncos controlling play much of the 3rd quarter as they took a 33-29 lead entering the final stanza. In the last quarter, Coopersville was up as much as 7 but the Eagles fought back with some timely shooting and free throws, taking a 40-39 lead with 1 minute to go. A Chase VanKempen 3 pointer put the Broncos back in front 42-40. Kent City tied the score with a back door layup by Jace Dailey. The Broncos held for the last shot and missed, sending the game to overtime tied at 42. In overtime, scoring went back and forth with Kent City finding themselves in the lead 49-46 with 15 seconds to go. A steal and layup by Nolan Frye cut the lead to 1. Kent City missed one free throw, giving the Broncos one final opportunity to win or tie the game. They fell short, and Kent City left with a 50-48 win.
Coopersville was led by Nolan Frye with 20 points, Chase VanKempen contributed 8 points and 13 rebounds. Connor Hilton had 9 points.
