Coopersville rode a 6 game winning streak into Spring Lake to take on the 13-3 Lakers Tuesday night. In a defensive battle, the Broncos emerged victorious 37-34. After a first quarter that ended in a 4-3 score, both teams scored in double digits in the 2nd which ended with Coopersville holding a slim 2 point lead 15-13. Spring Lake played a tough and physical 3rd quarter and took a 3 point lead into the final stanza. The Lakers led 34 to 30 with 50 seconds to play when Nolan Frye hit a 3 pointer to cut the lead to 1. After a flurry in which 25 seconds went off the clock without Spring Lake advancing the ball beyond half court and featuring many deflections by Coopersville, they finally fouled Speing Lake who went to the line shooting 1 and 1. The Lakers missed the first free throw, Coopersville eschewed the timeout, choosing instead to run a play with Riley Johnson who was fouled with 12 seconds to go. Riley mad both free throws to give the Broncos their first lead of the 2nd half. Spring Lake rushed up the floor and Nolan Frye tipped the ball to Riley Johnson who was fouled with t seconds to go. Riley again made both ends of the 1 and 1 to give the Broncos a 3 point lead, Spring Lakes last second try was off the mark and the Broncos were victorious 37 to 34. Coopersville moves into 2nd place in the OK Blue conference at 7-2 while Spring Lake falls to 6-3. The Broncos are in action again Friday night against league leading Grand Rapids Catholic Central
